Raven's MySQL Update Utility
SoftwareTired of using phpMyAdmin for those quick update/edit table settings jobs? So am I. And, as I patrol and answer questions at NukeCops, there are often times when users don't have phpMyAdmin installed or don't know how to use it. This little utility need only be placed in the same file as mainfile.php and will allow you to update a known setting in a known table. It's all in the README file. Use at your own risk, but enjoy! Get it here.

Update 8/7/2003 11:46 I have added the functionality to Check the current value before making the Update.

I opted to NOT make this a nuke module because often times the users are not even able to get nuke running because they have inadvertently hosed up a theme, or forgotten their password, etc. I may release it also as a nuke module later, if there is enough interest.

Heretic! No, I'm not tired of using phpMyAdmin. I'm tired of ppl thinking they have to use the predefined installation of phpMyAdmin that came with their control panel. Here's a recent review I did of phpMyAdmin 2.5.2 pl1...

"phpMyAdmin is a freeware tool written in PHP, designed to handle the administration of MySQL over the WWW. Currently it can create/drop databases, create/drop/alter tables, delete/edit/add fields, execute any SQL statement, and manage keys on fields.

If you use a global installation of phpMyAdmin through a mass webhoster via your control panel, remember that you are always free to install/upgrade your own local phpMyAdmin installation in your webspace. You are not dependant on predefined installations! Those control panel versions are usually several generations old, and webhosts disable many of the 'power' features, such as the ability to display MySQL variables and runtime information.

phpMyAdmin will install on your server like any other PHP program. If you installed PHP-Nuke yourself, you won't have any problem installing and configuring phpMyAdmin. The process is much the same. If you're still using the generic version of phpMyAdmin that came with your web site, you don't know what you're missing. Highly recommended and it's FREE!

Forget the 'training wheels' and stick with phpMyAdmin... :)
