File Leeching? Bandwidth Theft? Is This The Answer???
SecurityVinDSL writes "Example of PHP-Nuke Passcode Security Feature for Downloads on Lenon.com

What do you think? Will it work? I think so!

I've been testing and tweaking it on my site for a few days with no complaints from either the users or myself. BTW, the example above is a link to the actual download mod if you want to get it from my site and try it for yourself..."

This mod has been around for a long time. In fact, a lot of sites use it, including mine. I've been using it for quite some time now. I would have at least mentioned the authors name and possibly a link to his site in the article. The reason I say this is to prevent people from assuming that the mod is indeed new and that you created it, even though the downloaded file shows differently and the credit link is intact on your site. I'm sure you don't want people to think that and them start saying something negative, since we've had so much of that crap in the community for a while now.

I've been in contact with the author through both private mails and the forums on Nuke Cops and he never muttered one word of protest. So, there is nothing underhanded going on here.

When I hacked HIS code I was very careful not to remove HIS copyright. I merely changed it to match all the other copyrights on my site. The link is in place to his main page, and the download is untouched - exactly the way it came from his site. LoL! I think you would have to be blind not to see a bold white copyright on a black background, but I know what you're saying.

In my defense, without making a big deal out of it, my 'story' was heavily edited from a 'story' down to practically a 'headline'. That's okay. I do the same thing with submissions on my own site.

I fully acknowledge that this is HIS 'program', not mine, and a damn fine one at that - world class, in fact.

I was simply trying to bring HIS mod to everyone's attention, and I think that has been accomplished. Hopefully, we can keep this up until everyone knows about it and installs it on their site. It should be built into PHP-Nuke, and as a matter of fact IS built into NSN-Nuke, which was released today. I think this is THE answer to the leeching problem...

I just posted the new version on my site for download. :)

This seems to be a pretty popular hack.
