Re: Word of warning about xdmp (Score: 1) by Jeruvy on Thursday, July 17 @ 10:11:32 CEST (User Info | Send a Message) | I agree, I'm new around the nuke campfire, and I like it simply since it means I don't have to putt around an ftp client to update content, and I can offer some administration of the content. Something that has been lacking in the past. Sure it isn't perfect, but for free, I'm willing to make it work. However xdmp sounds to me like a great idea, and paying a subscription fee sounds like a bad idea. What I do not agree with is the scaremongering tactic of this type of article, but then I'm learning that the NUKE community doesn't seem to be afraid to use tactics in news that we would find dispicable from more legitamate sources.
Anything that reduces the noise from these kinds of 'news' articles, with real signal from a legit source in the form of xdmp or whatever else, is nothing but a good thing.

This is not scaremongering, or FB bashing, it is a word of warning about how people use it. As for degrading the internet, this is based on fact from about 10 years of research and study into internet use and user experiance. Users are a lot less likely to come back to a site that has no unique content. Using an app like XDMP will increase the likelyhood of a user never returning to a site because this type of app encourages the webmaster to rely on automated news grabbing rather than adding unique content. If people chose to pay heed to this advice, then all the better. If they chose to ignore this advice, then that's up to them. Just don't say I didn't warn you... |
