(User Info | Send a Message) | This mod isnt designed to prevent hotlinking. Using the mod in addition to using a htaccess, it will help keep undesirable bots, spiders, crawlers off your downloads.
This only limits the massdownload apps (get-right, blackwidow, ripper, etc) from being able to directly download from your site thus saving bandwidth since there isnt a clickable link to your files. This is much the same reason why the security code is present in the newer version of nuke.
Ever since I adopted usage of a tight htaccess, anti-hotlinking, and this fetching mod, I have seen that bots cant get to my downloads without human intervention, and this trouble help keeps these undesirable people off my site than using just htaccess. It also helps bring traffic into your site instead of people downloading and never seeing your site. |
