Nuke Cops: NextGen Servers

I've been checking out some of the statistics on the AMD Opteron versus the Intel Xeon processors. Based on a single CPU test, it appears that Intel outranks AMD. However, in the multi-CPU market Opteron looks like the winner. I priced out ...

... some servers for each architecture.

AMD: A 4U dual Opteron 18 GHz with 2 GB RAM and two 73 GB SCSI Drives comes out to around $4500.

INTEL: A 2U dual Xeon 3.06 GHz with 1MB cache and a 533 MHZ FSB same remaining setup as above is at $5200.

Which begs the question, both look relatively attractive. The numbers I've seen suggest that the dual Opterons can be compared to the 8 way Itaniums.

One of these routes is where I want to take Nuke Cops. Quad Opterons are not due out for another quarter or two.
