My forum titles are there and the posts ares still in the database - but each forums says there are not posts in them. I really need help on this and have no idea where to begin looking.

Depending on the version you upgraded from, you might need to tun the forum upgrade script.
If I remember correctly, they hid it in Modules/Forum/

Ran it - didn't solve the issue. But I have since fixed it by saving it from a backup and re-importing it into the new version.
