I know of the current derivatives of GoogleTap from when I first released it. I have taken the original GT release into a new level for performance and will be releasing it soon to help speed up your sites. There are a couple requirements that I'll highlight at that time. |

Holy moly I downloaded the NukeCopsGoogleTapBeta065.tar
and was trying for 4 days straight to get it to work and then I found this !!http://nukecops.com/PHP-Nuke_googletap.html
when did you put that there????
I downloaded the file 11/23/04 almost a month ago
I couldn't find instructions or a tutorial anywhere and was pulling my hair out ----please include instructions with your next release or in your PHP-Nuke HOWTO
I am going to go download the newest version you have the link for on that page and follow your instructions - Hopefully I can get it to work
I plan to use custom modules and will have to create custom ReWrite rules for my modules any Idea where a tutorial on how to do that???
I may be able to figure it out |

Wow I downloaded GT_Distro_10-22-03 and it took me all of about 15 minutes to get it up and working and another 5 minutes to figure out the 3 steps to get the RewriteRule to work for the custom modules I made - easy cuz I only had on url to rewrite - one line url in one line out lol
I still dont understand how this takes advantage of spidering I mean it gives .html links that to the spidering process that were not originally there but when I use a spider simulator and the long url - the same content gets displayed
whether the url is GoogleTapped or not
here are 2 examples from my site and the spider simulator I used
I go to http://www.webconfs.com/search-engine-spider-simulator.php
EXAMPLE #1
This first url for simple custom module has been "GoogleTapped"
on the above site I first spider it using this url
http://familyonetransportation.com/modules.php?name=Rates
then I put in http://familyonetransportation.com/Rates.html
(the Rewrite -a page that does not actually exist on my webserver)
SAME RESULTS
EXAMPLE #2
This second url for simple custom module has NOT been GoogleTapped"
on the above site I can obviously not spider the url
http://familyonetransportation.com/Buses.html
Because I havent googletapped it the Buses module I made
but it still gets spidered when I put in
http://familyonetransportation.com/modules.php?name=Buses
I suspect that if I "GoogleTap" it I will get same results when using simulator
IS GOOGLETAP DESIGNED TO GET PAGES INDEXED OR SPIDERED?
Spidering and indexing are 2 different things arent they?
What is the advantage to using GT I guess I just dont understand
You see my goal is to get better page rankings and target my audience with content inside my customized modules
I have more than quadrupled the traffic in 2 months after I rebuilt this site for my friend without googletap and heard once that search engines dont like php but am under the assumption at this point that google (and other search engines) don't like to "INDEX" dynamic urls yet they crawl them? Just because it "hits" files means nothing if you arent getting referrers (referrals)
I mean is this spider simulator I'm using tells me that long urls are spidered
I believe am pretty good at getting qualified (targeted/customers who make inquiries for quotes) traffic to a site using meta tags, keywords, and site text/links/etc
but what are the facts about what the search engines do when the read long url vs. short url
I'm not using Default Modules much so no NEWS/FORUMS/DOWNLOADS/WEBLINKS(for now)
One last thing - I have stats that are in a subfolder on root and I access them using an index.html file and now it shows up as a version of index.php with all my images missing IS THIS A PROBLEM WITH SOME REWRITE RULE OR WHAT??
right now my default home page (root) is index.html which I use as a redirect page to index.php - I can change this but this index.html page has alot of content that you can't see because its all in the same color as the background even an image that is white -like bkgrd that is linked to pages on my site alt tags etc - It worked to Quadruple Traffic in less than 30 days and the revisit metatag helped
IT REDIRECTS IN 1 SECOND But gets read
if you can press stop in IE before it redirects (in 1 second)
then go to edit select all you'll see what the search engines get from that page
Some people may say I'm trying to trick search engines and that thats frowned on - that this is a doorway page I will eventually when I get done building this site stop using this method anyway and reset default to index.php
http://familyonetansportation.com
I just found this link and thought others in spidering vs. indexing
might find interesting http://www.metamorphozis.com/tutorials/optimizing_dynamic_sites.shtml |

Please help me find the answer to this 3 questions:
1. Is it possible to install Google Tap without accessing Apache?
I have my site hosted on Lycos.
2 .With Google-Bot getting smarter each day, is Google Tap installation still justifiably? And if so, for how long? I mean, Google already index some dynamic urls…
3. Why are PHPNuke urls less Google friendly than the ones from Mambo or other CMS suites? Both use “?” and “&”. Is it the IDs?
Thanks a lot for any reply. |

1) GoogleTap uses the RewriteRule of Apache in its .htaccess file. If you do not run Apache, do not have mod_rewrite installed, or cannot use .htaccess files, you cannot run GoogleTap.
2) Yes, .html reduces the long string of variables and that is always a plus. It looks like a static HTML page, which is create for indexing.
3) I don't see any reason why Mambo or others are more friendly. Not at all. I would put any phpNuke GoogleTap'd over any CMS that does not have its rewrite url features. |

Crawling and indexing are 2 different things
If the bot finds more acceptable content (depending on it's settings) then it indexes more
Google - IS NOT however - the only visitor coming for dinner - would you serve a meat only dinner and then invite vegetarians to join you? |

I've updated http://googletap.com with some extra FAQ today. Expert GoogleTap is only at http://castlecops.com at the moment. I'm fine tuning it and expanding its reach. |

Can I update to expert google tap? I am on PHPNuke 7.6 and Gt-Nextgen. From where do I get to download it? It is not available at the Castlecops Downloads section. |

Its not available at the moment. Just as a reminder, GT taps the entire site at break-neck speeds. |
